Off the coast of Washington State are some magical islands...

...the San Juans. Here's our first view of the islands from the ferry.

Our first campground was at Lakedale Resort on San Juan Island.
Here's the lodge.

Let the rides begin! Mom and daughter (Debra and Ashley)
consult maps.

We rode past farms...

fields of flowers...

whimsical scarecrows...

and a lavender farm,

where Carolyn and I enjoyed the lovely scents.

Being a "multi-sport trip", kayaking was also on the agenda...

and we stopped to sample some bullhead kelp. Yum!

We never tired of the beautiful scenery...

Who would have thought Mona the camel would be a local?

The food was awesome and our hosts, Carrisa, Daniela and
Katie presented a "five star" dinner.

The islands have an interesting history. Both the Americans
and British wanted control.

This is the British graveyard at English Camp.

Carolyn takes a photo op while waiting for a ferry.

Our next camp was on the shore of Cascade Lake
at Moran State Park on Orcas Island.

Backroads really knows how to set up a camp...
complete with a black tailed deer!

Here's the "jumping off tree".

It's important to watch your step for banana slugs.

Fisherman's Bay...

...one of the nicest stops on Lopez Island.

Even when it rained, Ashley's smile brightened our day.
Here, she leads us in the acclaimed "whale dance".
It worked and we saw orcas and a minke!
